Information & Cultural Service
The Information and Cultural Section provides information about Japan and Japanese Culture to the people of Australia, with the aim of promoting an understanding of the people and society of Japan.
We offer a variety of services free of charge to teachers, students and the general public.
General Inquiries
Inquiries about Japan may be forwarded by telephone, facsimile, email, mail or in person.
Publications
We distribute brochures, magazines books and other publications about Japan, including the pictorial magazines, Nipponia and Asia-Pacific Perspectives.
Video Library
Over 150 videos relating to various aspects of Japan, its society and culture are available for loan from the Embassy.
Display Materials
A number of Japanese cultural items are available to be borrowed by educational institutions for display purposes. These include Hina Matsuri doll sets, kimonos, flags, daruma dolls, kites and musical instruments.
School Visit Program
The staff of the Cultural and Information section are available to visit ACT primary and secondary schools to introduce Japanese culture. Members of the JET Programme Alumni Association also attend to explain and promote the JET Programme. We make every effort to respond to the curriculum needs of the students.
Embassy Visit Program
The Embassy accepts school visits by primary and high school students. Bookings are essential. Please contact Eriko Prior for an application form. The visit program normally includes a video which introduces Japan, a question and answer session and a tour of the Japanese gardens.
