Ambassador’s Visit to Melbourne

Ambassador Kusaka and Mrs Kusaka visited Melbourne from the 16th to the 17th of September.  On the 16th, the Ambassador and Mrs Kusaka visited the National Gallery of Victoria for the exhibition on Bamboo: Tradition in Contemporary Form, guided by Mr Wayne Crothers, curator in Japan art.  They appreciated the extremely high quality of work created by Japanese bamboo artists as well as the full support and cooperation extended by Mr Baillieu Myer AC.

In the evening, the Ambassador and Mrs Kusaka attended the Spring Gala Dinner hosted by the Australia Japan Society of Victoria, Japanese Society of Melbourne, and Japanese Chamber of Commerce and Industry Melbourne. During his speech, the Ambassador said the friendship between Japan and Victoria has been strengthening, in fact there are currently more than 170 Japanese companies in various fields operating in Victoria, and Melbourne will also be hosting the Japan-Australia Business Co-operation Committee Conference and the 2018 FIFA World Cup Qualifier match between Japan and Australia in October which will catch the attention of both Japanese and Australian businesspersons and soccer fans. Ambassador Kusaka expressed his intention to continue to work with Consul-General Haneda and the Consulate-General of Japan in Melbourne to further strengthen the links between Japan and Australia.
