Specified Visa

1. Spouse or Child of Japanese

Personal relationship or status for which the residence is authorised: the spouses of Japanese nationals; children adopted by Japanese nationals in accordance with the provisions of Article 817-2 of the Civil Code (Law no. 89 of 1896); or those born as the children of Japanese nationals.

 Period of stay: 5 years, 3 years, 1 year or 6 months

An applicant must either obtain a Certificate of Eligibility or read the next section (Spouse of Japanese Visa, Child of Japanese Visa) for an alternative procedure.

<Spouse of Japanese Visa>
Visa for a legal spouse of a Japanese national to accompany that Japanese spouse to Japan.

REQUIREMENTS
1. A valid passport
2. Evidence that you hold a valid Australian visa. This may be obtained by visiting the VEVO Section of the website of the Department of Immigration and Border Protection. The link is http://www.immi.gov.au/Services/Pages/vevo/vevo-overview.aspx
3. One completed visa application form (Sample)
4. One passport sized photo (3.5 cm x 4.5 cm or 2in. x 2in.; taken within the past 6 months)
5. Flight details (full flight details from an accredited travel agent or airline)
*We do not require the purchase of tickets, but we do require a confirmed reservation. We are not responsible for tickets which may become unusable due to the delay or denial of a visa.
6. An official copy of the Japanese spouse's family register (Koseki Tohon).
    Must have been issued within three months prior to application for the visa and must show the registered marriage
7. An official copy of the Japanese spouse’s certificate of residence (Jumin Hyo). If your Japanese spouse lives in Australia and does not have one it may be omitted.
8. A copy of spouse's Japanese passport.
9. A letter of guarantee from your spouse. If your Japanese spouse lives with you in Australia, please telephone the Embassy's Consular Section on 02 6273 3244 during office hours for alternative arrangements.
10. Documents providing your guarantor's financial capabilities (such as certificate of income or Tax payment showing annual income, etc.). If your spouse lives with you in Australia you can meet this requirement by submitting your own bank statement, salary slip, ATO income tax notification or superannuation documentation.

<Child of Japanese Visa>
Visa for a child of a Japanese national to live in Japan

REQUIREMENTS
1. A valid passport

3. One completed visa application form (Sample)
4. One passport sized photo (3.5 cm x 4.5 cm or 2in. x 2in.; taken within the past 6 months)

6. An official copy of the Japanese parent's family register (Koseki Tohon). These copies must have been issued within three months prior to application for the visa and must show the registered birth
7. A copy of Japanese parent's passport(s)
8. A letter of guarantee from someone in Japan, preferably a Japanese relative
9. Documents providing guarantor's financial capabilities (such as Certificate of Income or Tax payment showing annual income, etc.)
10. An original of the applicant's full birth certificate. Both parents' names should be mentioned

2. Designated Activities

Activities authorised to engage in: Activities that are specifically designated by the Minister of Justice for foreign individuals. (For example, activities on the part of foreigners who wish to enter Japan as personal help privately employed by diplomats, consular representatives, etc.; foreigners who are employed by companies, etc. and are active as athletes in amateur sports and their dependent spouses and children; foreign lawyers engaged in international arbitration affairs, etc. and university students engaged in internship activities.)

 Period of stay: 5 years, 4 years, 3 years, 2 years, 1 year, 6 months or 3 months, or a designated period of less than 3 years

An applicant must obtain a Certificate of Eligibility to apply for this visa.

3. Long-term Resident

Personal relationship or status for which residence is authorised: Includes refugees as stipulated by the convention relating to the Status of Refugees, Indochinese refugee settlers, second- and third-generation Japanese settlers, etc.

 Period of stay: 5 years, 3 years,1 year, 6 months or a designated period of less than 3 years

An applicant must obtain a Certificate of Eligibility to apply for this visa.
