Foreign Minister’s Commendation for Dr. Shiro Armstrong

On the 9th of September 2026, Ambassador Kazuhiro Suzuki presented the Foreign Minister’s Commendation to Dr. Shiro Armstrong (Director of the Australia-Japan Research Centre at the Australian National University) at the Ambassador’s Residence.
This commendation was awarded by Foreign Minister Motegi in recognition of Dr. Armstrong’s long-standing contributions to research on the Japan-Australia economic relationship and to the promotion of mutual understanding between the two nations in commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the Basic Treaty of Friendship and Cooperation between Japan and Australia.
During the ceremony, Dr. Armstrong expressed his honour at receiving the award, thanked his family and friends, and stated his commitment to continuing to contribute to the development of the Japan-Australia relationship.
