Ambassador Takahashi's Farewell Message

2020/12/10
Ambassador and Mrs Takahashi
After almost two years here in Canberra, I will conclude my posting as Ambassador to Australia and return to Tokyo in late December. Please allow me to take this opportunity to express my deepest gratitude for the support and cooperation that you have shown me during my throughout my stay.

Over the course of my posting, remarkable progress has been achieved for the Japan-Australia relationship. To a large extent, this progress can be attributed to the immense value attached to our two nations’ relationship by Prime Minister Abe and Prime Minister Morrison, and now continued through Prime Minister Suga.

During my posting I have had the opportunity to visit every state and territory across the country – including capital cities and regions. I have been touched by the generosity and kindness shown by the many Australians with whom I have connected. I am sad to be leaving Australia, but also feel extremely fortunate to have experienced Australia’s hospitality, and I look forward to continuing the wonderful friendships I have formed.

My successor, Mr Yamagami Shingo, is expected to arrive in Canberra by the end of the year and I ask that you afford him the same kindness and support that you have shown during my time in Australia. Thank you once again.
