Conferral ceremony for the Order of the Rising Sun, Gold and Silver Star to Ambassador of Ukraine to Australia, H.E. Dr Mykola Kulinich (former Ambassador of Ukraine to Japan)

On 9 December, the conferral ceremony for the Order of the Rising Sun, Gold and Silver Star bestowed on the Ambassador of Ukraine to Australia, H.E. Dr Mykola Kulinich (former Ambassador of Ukraine to Japan) was held at the residence of Ambassador Kusaka. The attendees at the ceremony included Mrs Olena Kulinich, spouse of Ambassador Kulinich, other ambassadors to Australia close to Ambassador Kulinich, and the Chairman of the Australian Federation of Ukrainian Organisations.
 
Ambassador Kulinich served at the Embassy of Ukraine in Japan from 1994 to 1998, and then proceeded to serve as the Ambassador of Ukraine to Japan from 2006 to 2013. Ambassador Kulinich is one of the most prominent Japan experts at the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry, and the Order is conferred on Ambassador Kulinich in honour of his contribution to strengthening and promoting friendly relations as well as mutual understanding between Japan and Ukraine.
 
At the ceremony, Ambassador Kusaka admired the significant contribution of Ambassador Kulinich to Japan-Ukraine relations including support for areas affected by the Great East Japan Earthquake and Tsunami which occurred in 2011, and also expressed his hope to use this opportunity to deepen ties between Japan, Ukraine and Australia. Ambassador Kulinich responded that the Order is a privilege for not only himself but also Ukraine. He also mentioned his memories of his first posting to Japan as an embassy staff member as well as during the Great East Japan Earthquake and Tsunami. He expressed his sincere appreciation to Ambassador Kusaka, Mrs Kulinich and other attendees, and said that he hoped to make further contributions to strengthening relations between Japan and Ukraine.
