2019 JET Programme Farewell Reception

2019/7/24
On Wednesday 17 July, Ambassador Takahashi hosted a reception at his official residence to bid farewell to nine participants of the 2019 Japan Exchange and Teaching (JET) Programme departing from Canberra.

The reception was attended by 17 former JET Programme participants as well as representatives from the Department of Education and Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, and staff from the Sydney office of the Council for Local Authorities for International Relations, the Australian National University, and the University of Canberra.

In welcoming the guests to his residence, Ambassador Takahashi expressed his gratitude to those who have supported the JET Programme over its 32-year history and spoke of how JET Programme participants’ experience in Japan can lead to the further development of Japan-Australia relations. The Ambassador encouraged each of our new participants to be bridge between Japan and Australia while on the Programme. This year’s participants will be in Japan at a very special time as it will host two of the world’s biggest sporting events, the 2019 Rugby World Cup and the Tokyo 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games, over the next 12 months.

This year’s participants will depart Australia for Japan on Saturday 27 July and will begin their lives on the JET Programme by attending post-arrival orientation in Tokyo.
