2017/7/19
On Thursday 6 July, Ambassador Kusaka and Mrs Kusaka invited this year’s 8 new participants of the Japan Exchange and Teaching (JET) Programme departing from Canberra to their residence for a farewell reception. This year’s reception also celebrated the 30th anniversary of the Programme and was cohosted by the JET Alumni Association Canberra.

Approximately 60 guests attended at the reception including around 40 former JET Programme participants, university professors, officials from the Council of Local Authorities for International Relations (CLAIR) Sydney, and members from the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade and the Department of Education and Training.

In his speech, the Ambassador expressed his gratitude to everyone who has supported the JET Programme over the last 30 years. He also shared his thoughts that the JET participants’ experiences in Japan will make a great contribution to the relationship between Japan and Australia in the future. The Ambassador then proceeded to encourage the new JETs to continue to be a bridge between the two countries in a professional capacity after the Programme.

This year’s new participants leave Australia on Saturday 22 July, and start their JET experiences by attending a post-arrival orientation held in Tokyo.
