Tohoku Youth Program participants pay a courtesy call to Ambassador Kusaka
2016/3/31
On 29th March, Ambassador Kusaka and Mrs Kusaka met with the four Tohoku Youth Program participants at the Ambassador’s Residence. They were invited by the Australia Japan Society (ACT) Inc. which established this program to invite those young people who lost their parents in the Great East Japan Earthquake in 2011. Since the establishment of this program, 22 young Japanese people from the Tohoku region have been invited to Canberra.
During their two week stay in Canberra, each participant enjoyed home stay with an Australian family, and saw many unique Australian animals and had interesting food. They told the Ambassador that it was very difficult to communicate in English effectively with their Australian friends, but nevertheless they enjoyed the experience.
The Ambassador said to the participants that they should appreciate people’s generosity during their time in Canberra and utilise this invaluable experience in the future. Furthermore, he hopes that they visit Australia again. AJS organises many charity events to raise funds for Tohoku Youth Program, and the Embassy of Japan would like to continue supporting their activities.
