Tohoku Youth Program Participants visit Ambassador Takahashi
2019/7/31
On 29 July, Ambassador Takahashi and Mrs Takahashi were paid a visit by four Japanese junior and senior high school students, who are currently visiting Australia on the Tohoku Youth Program. The four current participants shared their experiences on the Program and impressions of Australia with the Ambassador and Mrs Takahashi.
The Tohoku Youth Program was conceived and organised by the Australia – Japan Society (ACT) Inc. (AJS) with the aim of bringing young students who suffered the loss of a parent or parents in the 2011 Great East Japan Earthquake and Tsunami to Australia for a short respite. To date, 50 students have visited Canberra on the Program. Participants spend approximately 2 weeks in Canberra with a host family and attend a local school, allowing them to experience Australian culture, society and nature firsthand.
In order to run the Tohoku Youth Program, AJS (ACT) holds charity events and fundraising activities throughout the year. The Embassy of Japan will continue to fully support their efforts.
