Conferral of the Minister for Foreign Affairs’ Commendation to Mr Peter Jennings AM Executive Director of the Australian Strategic Policy Institute

On 25 November, Ambassador Yamagami, in recognition of his contribution to the mutual understanding between Australia and Japan, presented the Japanese Foreign Minister’s Commendations to Mr Peter Jennings AM, executive director of the Australian Strategic Policy Institute (ASPI). Ambassador Yamagami praised Mr Jennings for his contributions over many years to closer security relations between the two countries, and to the intellectual exchange between Japanese and Australian government officials and academics through the continuation of the Japan-Australia 1.5 Track Security Dialogue (His speech is attached here). Mr Jennings responded by expressing his gratitude for the commendation, and also spoke about the last 70 years of relations between Australia and Japan, not limited to trade, cultural exchange, and tourism, but also now based on sharing a similar strategic outlook in the field of security.
