Conferral of the Minister for Foreign Affairs’ Commendation to Professor Rory Medcalf AM, Head of the National Security College at the Australian National University

On 25 November 2022, Ambassador YAMAGAMI Shingo conveyed the Foreign Minister’s Commendation on Professor Rory Medcalf AM, Head of the National Security College at the Australian National University, in recognition of Professor Medcalf’s extraordinary contribution to promoting mutual understanding between Japan and Australia.
Ambassador YAMAGAMI offered words of praise for Professor Medcalf’s efforts and achievements over many years in developing the Japan-Australia relationship, strengthening Australia’s engagements in the Indo-Pacific region, and promoting intellectual exchanges between Japanese and Australian government officials and experts. Professor Medcalf, after expressing his gratitude on receiving the award, looked back on his own relationship with Japan, and spoke of the steadily growing importance of the roles Japan and Australia play in the international community, given the current regional and global situation. He then spoke of his determination to continue working to develop cooperative ties between both countries in conjunction with the Embassy of Japan.
