On 5 August, His Excellency Ambassador Kazuhiro SUZUKI travelled to attend the ceremony coinciding with the 79th anniversary of the Cowra Breakout.

At the official wreath-laying ceremony, Ambassador Suzuki and the Mayor of Cowra laid wreathes at the Australian and Japanese cemeteries to commemorate the Australian and Japanese war dead. He then participated in a reception at the Cowra Japanese Garden, where he delivered a speech in which he spoke of the bonds that have been forged between the people of Cowra and Japan over many decades, and how the kindness and consideration shown to Japan by the people of Cowra has brought Australia and Japan closer than ever before.

It provided an opportunity to further strengthen the ties between Japan and Cowra.
