Ambassador Suzuki’s Official Visit to Western Australia

Ambassador Suzuki made an official visit to Western Australia from the 20th to the 26th of March, 2025. While in Perth, Ambassador Suzuki met with H.E. the Hon Chris Dawson AC APM Governor of Western Australia, the Hon Roger Cook MLA, Premier of Western Australia, the Hon Alanna Clohesy MLC, President of the Legislative Council of Western Australia, and the Hon Paul Papalia CSC MLA, Minister for Emergency Services; Corrective Services; Defence Industries, among other representatives from the state government and legislative council. He discussed Japan-Australia cooperation in a wide range of issues including the resources and energy sector, the defence industry, which is highly anticipated for future growth, as well as initiatives aimed at further deepening people-to-people connections and more.
 
The Ambassador also visited Broome, where Japanese pearl divers were active from the late 19th century. He called upon Broome Shire President Mr Chris Mitchell JP, met with the local Japanese community and made a wreath offering at the Japanese cemetery.
 
Ambassador Suzuki further attended Japan Symposium 2025 hosted by Perth USAsia Centre and delivered a keynote speech in which he discussed new frontiers in Japan-Australia economic relations.  The Ambassador also exchanged opinions with experts in the panel discussion, discussing opportunities for further development of Japan-Australia collaboration in new industries. In addition, the Ambassador also visited Yanchep, inspecting the progress of the Japanese business-led urban development project of more than 50 years.
