2025 Conferral of the Order of the Rising Sun, Gold Rays with Neck Ribbon on Mr Andrew Barr MLA, Chief Minister of the Australian Capital Territory

On the 25th of October 2025, Mr Andrew Barr MLA, Chief Minister of the ACT (Australian Capital Territory) was conferred the Order of the Rising Sun, Gold Rays with Neck Ribbon as part of the 2025 Spring Conferment of Decorations for his contribution to developing friendship between Japan and Australia through the Nara Canberra sister city relationship.
The conferral ceremony was held at Canberra Nara Peace Park in conjunction with the Canberra Nara Candle Festival.
Ambassador Suzuki gave a congratulatory speech praising Mr. Barr’s achievements in contributing to the promotion of mutual understanding and friendship between Japan and Australia while the crowd of attendees observed, including guests Mr. Brendan Smyth, Commissioner for International Engagement for the ACT and Mr. Bill Andrews, President of the Canberra Nara Sister City Committee. The Chief Minister of the ACT then gave a speech in response.
