With the aim of promoting mutual understanding, the Japan Information and Culture Centre (JICC) provides information about Japan and Japanese culture and society to the people of Australia.

Publications

We have a range of travel brochures, magazines, and other publications about Japan available to the general public.
 

DVD Library and Cultural Items

DVDs and cultural items are available for loan to organisations and educational institutions in the ACT and the surrounding region.
 


Loan conditions are as follows:
 
  • Bookings should be made, where possible, in advance.
  • The maximum loan period is 14 days.
  • All items borrowed must be returned promptly.
  • All items are to be collected and returned by the borrower.
  • Damaged items must be repaired or paid for.
  • Photo I.D. is required.
Interstate borrowers should contact the relevant Consulate-General of Japan.

Embassy and School Visits

We can facilitate visits to the Embassy from school and university students, as well as visits to schools in the ACT and the surrounding area to participate in multicultural and Japan-related school events (Japan Day, Multicultural Day, etc.). Staff from the Japan Information and Culture Centre introduce aspects of Japanese culture and society through videos, plastic food displays, traditional toys and clothing. Visits to the Embassy may also include a tour of the Japanese garden in the Ambassador's residence (subject to availability). Requests from schools considering introducing or without a Japanese language curriculum are also welcome. Please be aware that schools/groups that have not previously requested Embassy and/or school visits will be prioritised during the application process.

Applications must be received by the 15th day of the month prior to the requested date of the visit. You will be notified by the end of the month as to whether the Embassy can grant your visit request.We endeavour to accommodate requests when possible, however please note that all visits are subject to the Embassy's schedule and may be cancelled at any time.
 

Embassy Visits

School and university groups visiting the Embassy must be no larger than 30 people and can only be conducted between 2:00 PM and 4:00 PM Mondays, and 9:30 AM to 12:00 PM and 2:00 PM and 4:00 PM Tuesday to Friday for 1 hour. The full names of all students, teachers, and accompanying adults must be submitted prior to the visit date for security purposes. Please note that the Embassy of Japan does not have public liability insurance, therefore visitors enter at their own risk.

School Visits

Staff from the Japan Information and Culture Section of the Embassy are able to visit schools in the ACT and the surrounding area to participate in multicultural and Japan-related school events such as Japan Day, Multicultural Day, and so on. Visits are conducted during 9:30 AM to 12:00 PM and 2:00 PM and 4:00 PM. Staff will take along cultural resources such as toys, clothing, and plastic food displays enabling students to have a hands-on and interactive experience.
