Temporary Visitor Visa

(Applications can be lodged only from individuals actually living or studying in the ACT, not from tourists or travellers. Whether or not a letter of guarantee from someone in Japan (a Japanese national or foreign permanent resident of Japan) is required with your temporary visitor application depends on who is going to pay for your airfare and travel expenses in Japan. Most, but not all, travellers finance their own trip to Japan, paying for their airfare and accommodation by themselves. Such travellers do not require a letter of guarantee from someone in Japan. For further information on this point, please phone the Embassy’s Consular Section on 02 6273 3244.)

All applicants are urged to visit the link below to ascertain whether they need to apply for a visa to travel to Japan as a temporary visitor (less than 90 days) or transit Japan (less than 90 days). Some nationalities, including Australians, do not require a visa for these purposes.
